personally, i'm a very big fan of visual symmetry and balance. i like walls with two sconces, tables with pairs of candlesticks, etc. i have four tattoos on my legs: two on the right and two on the left (two of which are almost identical representations of a phoenix, one "hot" colors and one "cold" colors"; one on each leg in the exact same spot). you get the idea.
my marriage to CawfeeMate is also an exercise in balance and symmetry since he is, just about, everything that i'm not: physically he's short, fair and strong and personally he's neat, tidy, organized, serious, responsible, thrifty, level headed, etc and we balance each other out perfectly. all his strengths make up for my short-comings and vice versa. we're, basically, Paula Abdul's Opposites Attract video (i'm not sure which one of us is Paula and which is the cartoon cat, but you get the idea).
In direct contrast with being a big fan of symmetry, i'm also a big flaming ball of entropy, leaving chaos and disorder in my wake of fabulousness and fierceness. true to form, CawfeeMate is usually not far behind me restoring order to (most) of which i've torn assunder and the place where this is most obvious (to me) is the dishwasher. when i load our dishwasher it is with zero regard for placement of...anything. my objective is to cram as much crap in as possible to get the job done and get the dishes clean without lifting a sponge so i can play Castlevania III. unfortunately, when i load a dishwasher it's 90% negative space.
He, on the other hand is the king of Dishwasher Jenga and usually shoos me out of the way and rearranges things so that the entire dishwasher is filled with plates, pots, glasses and silverware with 1% negative space but still allows for pretty damn good cleaning. as someone with incredibly poor judgement and 3D imagining, watching him is as fascinating as it is infuriating. not surprisingly, he's also an incredible parallel parker and great at furniture placement.
on the flipside, the minute the diswasher finishes, i empty the thing of all the burning hot plates. if it was up to him, they'd sit there for days. see? balance.
just you're average, every day, married gay guy commuting, drinking alot of coffee and knitting to stay sane.

Everything's Coming Up Roses...For Now
dunno why i'm tempting fate by putting this "on paper", thereby making it real...but i'm feeling terribly content, bordering on blissfully oblivious, at the moment. all the planets seem to be in some sort of alignment right now, as evidenced by the close of two major fiascos (the dishwasher and the photographer), my body's apparent recollection of how to lose weight (182 lbs, baby!), our upcoming trip to canada, my more recent trip to get another tattoo (this sunday! the winner, incidentally, is number 3) and my new position at work.
then, there's the fact that almost all of my friends lives are going swimmingly, with new loves, new babies on the way, engagements, world tours, and domestic bliss. i haven't had one person complain to me (rationally), in weeks! i wanna exhale like whitney, right about now.
ok...let the smiting begin!

CawfeeGuy Ink Pt. 2
ok, my leg is burning like you wouldn't believe (between the shaving and the tattoo), but i love it. the color is just popping off my leg in all the right shades of blue.the artist was very chatty and convivial, throughout. we got into the most spirited conversation about the man who designed the Nazi uniforms during WWII.
we were there till almost 11, despite my appointment at 8 (he didn't get me in the chair till 10), so this morning i'm absolutely dragging my ass. i'm so tired i can hardly see.

i just made my appointment for my 3rd tattoo! Tuesday at 8. i'm so psyched!i'm going with the "cold phoenix" that i was originally thinking of (it'll look a bit different than that picture, but you get the general idea). i think it'll fit in nicely with my strange OCD thing about poetic symmetry and balance.

One...Tattoo...Three
so i'm thinking of getting another tattoo with my IRS refund check. i'm a little torn, though, about what to get. right now, there are two possibilities on the table (but i'm sure there will be one or two more by the time i actually get the check):
2. Keith Haring's "8" (from the children's book "Ten"). I'm thinking of getting this all around my left ankle (under the 1st Phoenix) in kind of a tribal band style. i just love the colors and the simplicity of his artwork.gimme some input, kids.

Because White Trash Kids Need a Dream Too (or Christmas Morning in the Trailerpark)

My 1st Tattoo Parlor available at E-Toys. it kinda goes hand in hand with the My 1st Stripper set that Nil was nice enough to clue me in on. i guess it was high time that a toy company came to the conclusion that not every kid will grow up to be a doctor, police officer or an astronaut.
btw: is it a coincidence that both kids have faux mullets? i don't think so!

CawfeeBoy Ink
i think i'm ready for another tattoo. People told me, when i got my 1st one that they were addictive. i thought that was a joke. i mean c'mon how does one get addicted to PAIN and INK. well here we are. i'm feeling an itch that's saying, "just one more...maybe on your arm...".
i said that the Phoenix that's on my right calf was going to be the last, but now i look at it and i'm thinking that it needs some flames on the bottom, or perhaps some more adornment AROUND it, something that showcaes that is IS a Phoenix, and not a chicken or airplane as my father thought. if i do go for further adornment of a pre-existing tattoo, does it count as ANOTHER tattoo or is it just a continuation of the afformentioned one? i think i'm going to go with the former opinion and think that if i DO get another one, which i think i do, it'll be my 3rd. but will it be my last? hmm...
