Test Day: Pop-Tart

You Are Pop Art

When it comes to art, you're definitely not a snob. You can appreciate the mainstream aspects of culture, even if you need to twist them a bit to make them your own.Whether you're into comics, retro pinups, or bold colors, you embrace what's eye catching and simple. As far as most other art goes, you consider it a little too elitist and high brow for your tastes!

What art movement are you?

8 Days 16 Hours 38 Minutes: Major Crisis Averted

so, last night, we were sitting on the couch watching episodes of House (Season 2) and Desperate Housewives (Season 3), while waiting for the premiere of the Bionic Woman, when i happened to casually glance at the copy of the ceremony, which the celebrant had sent us about 3 or 4 weeks ago, lying on our coffee table. the cover page didn't look right. something was off. after a couple of minutes staring at it, i realized that she'd spelled Stephen's last name wrong. no biggie, especially since it was a document that only the wedding party would see. then i realized what else was wrong. the date on the cover page was "Sunday, October 7th". somehow, after a year of preparation, almost weekly e-mails, and three revisions of the ceremony, she had the wrong date. i called her straight away, and told her about the "typo".

nope. not a typo. that's the date she had on her calendar.
luckily she did not double book the 6th, though she assured me that if she had she'd still make sure that our ceremony was covered.

we're meeting her tonight at the hall to have a last minute pow-wow about the ceremony; mostly for the sake of blocking and spacing.

i don't think i can take any more "surprises".

It's a Boy Pt. 4: Everyone's a Critic

(via e-mail)

John: And...Rufus? Really? ::rolls eyes:: I wanted LIZA! I wanted REBA! Something fabulous and gaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! You can call him Rufus. I will refer to him as PL (Paul Lynde)
Me: He's a BOY. Trust me, if we had gotten a girl it woulda been Willow or Buffy (possibly Bette)
John: Good. PL it is then! "Samantha...He wants a SNAUSAGE!"

It's a Boy Pt. 3: the Name Game

Grover has been vetoed (by Stephen; he maintains that the name which is so fitting now, because he looks like a little muppet, will not be fitting once puppyhood is over. despite claiming that he wants me to name the puppy, he still has veto power, unless i'm adamant about it. i really liked Grover, but i wasn't married to it. my 1st choice of Teddy was shot down because it's too common)

in favor Rufus (which hit me on the bus this morning, ironically while looking at a picture of River Phoenix. it's cute, it's real and it's a name that will last till he's dragging us around in our wheel chairs)

(and yes this is the final decision)
please adjust your blogs accordingly.
thank you.

I Love Text Messaging Pt. 2

me: MS wants to know how much you paid for Grover Rufus
Stephen: $xxxx.xx
me: WHAT?!?
Stephen: x x x x
me: **passes out**
Stephen: take good care of him

four digits.
nothing that little should cost four digits, except for jewelry.
i've never owned anything that was worth four-fucking-digits that didn't require an oil change every...so often.

Shiny Pretty Things II

as promised:

is she not amazing?

photography.

jewelry.

home decor.

she's also incredibly hot.

like, really really really hot.

this girl woman chick is a catch, fellas; what the fuck are you waiting for?

It's a Boy Pt. 2: the Pressure of a Name

on Saturday evening, we went to Petco for some puppy supplies. stephen spent a large portion of the shopping trip telling me to scale down my purchases. not "buy fewer things" or "less expensive" things; just buy smaller things. it's hard to wrap my mind around how small the puppy is; not that i'm used to big dogs...i actually really don't like big dogs (read: scared of them). he's just alot smaller than mom's maltese or our deceased schnauzer. i'm not gonna lie to you, the temptation to get the Coach bag has now increased, exponentially.

anyway, we walked out with a leash, collar, a little walking harness, 2 training clickers and a couple cute little toys. stephen already picked up the crate, now he needs a little puppy-play-pen. Puppies for Dummies is coming in very handy.

after a wonderful brunch and afternoon jaunt with MS (wait till you see the jewelry), yesterday, i've settled on a name:
Grover.
i dunno why. it just seems to fit. maybe 'cuz he looks like a little muppet and Grover was always one of my favorites (second only to Ernie, but he doesn't look like an Ernie, does he?). mind you, this is all subject to change the minute we pick him up from Bohemia and his name becomes instantly apparent.
i'm glad the wedding is next week, all the excitement and hubub is very distracting.

It's a Boy!!!!!!

Omg we're gonna be daddies. this was my wedding gift from Stephen. i'm so excited i could just die. now it's the pressure of a name: Ernie? Teddy? Cubby? Floyd? Cliff?

maybe i should meet him before i name him.

that's the only bad part, we're not going to meet till after we get back from the honeymoon. i guess its not so bad, 'cuz at least we'll be married before the adoption is final. wow, instant family; married with a child! who'dve thunk?

he's so fucking cute. i don't know if i can how i'm going to wait 2 weeks.

Test Day: Pick-a-Little-Talk-a-Little

You Are Picky When it Counts
Like most sane women, you want a great guy who will treat you well. But you're also willing to put up with a few flaws in your Mr. RightYou should congratulate yourself on having a realistic approach to dating. You probably have quite a few great guys you can date!

thanks, MS.

Test Day: Flame On.

Your Superpower Should Be Manipulating Fire

You are intense, internally driven, and passionate.
Your emotions are unpredictable - and they often get the better of you.
Both radiant and terrifying, people are drawn to you.
At your most powerful, you feel like the world belongs to you.

Why you would be a good superhero: You are obsessive enough to give it your all

Your biggest problem as a superhero: Your moodiness would make it difficult to control your powers

What should your superhero powers be?
don't even start on the irony. thanks again, BL.

15 days 15 hours 32 minutes

we're at 69 people (give or take a last minute no-show). the hall is all taken care of; the menu has been chosen. can't wait. john came with us last night and after the hall we dropped stephen at the doctor and drove around talking. it was really nice; we've not had David-John time in a while. i miss that.

e-mailed the celebrant as we still have issues regarding how the ceremony is gonna play out. she keeps mentioning a processional and a recessional, but since we're gonna be in 1 room for the whole night, there's no place to proceed from or recede to! this is her job though, and i sent her the floor plan that the hall gave us, so i'm waiting to hear what she thinks.

we received out 1st wedding gift! when i got home this gorgeous pair of Waterford flutes was waiting, from Stephen's cousin from Michigan, who will be unable to attend. i think tonight we'll test them out.

speaking of gifts, as i write this , stephen's on his way into long island to do something with my wedding gift. i have no idea what that means, but apparently he received something in the mail the day before yesterday, which (despite having sorted the mail enroute from the box) i handed over, not realizing in contained information regarding this fabulous gift.
the only clue i've been given is the e-mail he sent me in regards to the picture of the Coach messenger bag i posted on Tuesday: "great! if you get one, you can put your wedding present from me in it".

he just called me and i asked him when i'd be getting this gift. he said "whenever you want".
i asked him if it was perishable. he replied, "technically".

needless to say, i'm intrigued.

18 Days 14 Hours 8 Minutes

As of Friday, all the RSVP's have come back, except for two. the final tabulation hasn't come in yet from our auditors (translation: i haven't sat down counted up the Yes's), but i got a call from the catering hall last night. we have to go see them wednesday/thursday for a finalization (read: pick our menu, give them a head count and all the special instructions, get a floor plan). my dad and brother went for their tux fittings, yesterday.
Sunday we're meeting MS for brunch and jewelry (god, i love the way that sounds).
it's all wrapping up quite nicely, i think.

Homo Alone

i haven't slept alone in about 2 years...maybe more. yesterday, Stephen had a conference/training seminar on Long Island, lasting two days, so he spent the night at his parents, rather than drive back and forth to Staten Island. it was only a night, but it was...unpleasant. while i have no problem being alone in the daytime, music blasting, making homemade ice cream (maple crunch) and tidying up, watching AbFab and playing gameboy on the couch; being home, alone, at night is...well...scary. the thing is, i'm afraid of the dark.

g'head and laugh, but it's true.

when i was a kid, it was easy. up till i was about 12 i slept with a teddybear. he was a Koala whose nose had been gnawed off by our schnauzer. he was small but i felt a certain sense of security. i gave him up shortly before high school because, well, that's just what a guy does, right? besides, i shared a room with my brother till my senior year of high school. it wasn't till college that i got my own room, but there was always someone in the house with me. even when i was living with John and Chris, somebody was always home. if not, i'd find a suitable "replacement bear".

i never lost that fear of the dark, though.

without my usual soundtrack playing, all i heard were a host of sounds i didn't need to hear; creaking, thumping, dripping; fingernails dragging along walls, things scuttling about. i woke up 3 times last night thinking there was somebody in the room/house. despite having a candle lit (it's the gay man's night-light), and shutting all the closet doors, tightly, i was convinced something was trying to get out. a homo-cidal clown, perhaps or a vampire or the giant preying mantis/closet monster. don't mock, i've watched enough Buffy to know what's lurking out in there...

if that wasn't bad enough, i was cold; all night long. i've mentioned it before, but stephen is like a 5'6", furry hot water bottle; radiating warmth, all through the night. without him there, it was chilly. it was the kind of chilly that a sheet, blanket and down comforter couldn't fight off. sure, i could've gotten up and closed the window, but usually Stephen would've, and then come back to bed and snuggled with me, till morning or till i get to hot, whichever comes 1st.

the next time he has to be away from home, over night, i'm coming with him. i do not like sleeping without my teddy bear.

Monday Morning: Ugh

terrible weekend.
my mom got rushed to the ER on Saturday night for shortness of breath (she's asthmatic) and a pain in her chest which was radiating down her arm (she's also got heart problems). we were there till 4am and she left at 2pm, on sunday. everything's ok, they don't think it was a heart attack; they're not sure what was wrong, but she's home now and i'm gonna call in a little while to make sure she's ok.
i'm just wiped out.
thank god stephen was with me.
today's his birthday.
***4:30***
the rest of the day didn't make me feel any better.
mom's feeling fine, by her own admission. i was all set to go see her after dinner, but the car is dead. stephen brought it to have the alignment and ABS looked at (this is the 2nd time in 2 weeks, after having to buy another 4 new tires, which makes a total of 11 in 3 years). the mechanic wouldn't let him leave; he said it was too dangerous as the car is almost brake-less.
