CD Deathmatch: the B-52's Funplex vs Madonna's Hard Candy

Funplex: fun, quirky, upbeat and catchy. Kate and Cyndi sound fantastic (Juliet of the Spirits, Ultraviolet), like no time had passed since Good Stuff (their last studio album) when they sounded just as good, if not better, than their very 1st album. Fred is, well, Fred; funny, nasal and loud; he may not be able to sing (Love in the Year 3000, Eyes Wide Open, Too Much to Think About), but he writes fantastic lyrics. musically, the band has really embraced the electronic sound of 2008 without compromising their sound; like Erasure and the Pet Shop Boys, you know this is a new album, but the sound is classically theirs. thumbs up.

Hard Candy: what a waste of ten bucks. poor madge sounds old and tired, singing songs that even Britney wouldn't have touched in her crazier days (Candy Shop). musically, it sounds like Bedtime Stories/American Life rejects; over produced, with heavy bass with nonsensical rapping (the Beat Goes On). i'm not sure what she was thinking when she greenlighted this release. she hasn't grown as an artist, she's regressed and it's a shame. hopefully the DJ's can remix this into somehting better, like they did with Confessions from the Dancefloor. in the immortal words of Ben Folds, "give me my money back/give me my money back/you bitch/i want my money back".

Where do I begin?

1) Funplex is a great CD, my favorite songs are 'Deviant Ingrediant' & 'Too Much To Think About' - but I totally agree that they've kept thier B52's sound while still embracing today's sounds. Great CD.

2) I have issues with your writing bad things regarding Madonna's new CD. I don't think you gave it an honest listen to. How could you have and still written what you wrote? First of all, she's Madonna, if you don't love her and everything about her to a fault, then the gay mafia will come and take away your membership card. Beyond that, you are the ONLY person I've read say anything bad about this CD, including real music critics. Beyond that, Madonna's sound is new and reinvented for herself. I personally renamed the genra of her new dance/pop CD as "hip pop". Groundbreaking? Yes, sort of, if you count Madonna's meticulous pop vocals over wonderfully produced hip hop beats. I mean really, did you listen to 'Give It 2 Me', 'Miles Away' or 'Beat Goes On'? Please, in order to save your gayocity, give the CD another try. You don't want to be kicked out? Do you? {sigh}

it's true, i only listened to it twice. i'll give it a shot, but i doubt i'll have some sort of epiphany...it's just sub-standard madonna. a real let down after Confessions (which everyone i know hated, but i defended).

Loving Funplex. Great remixes too (love the peaches remix).

Hard Candy? Jury's out. But I am dancing most evenings to "4 minutes to save the world" as I cook dinner...

I am in the middle of a blog about Madonna right now. If you think what you wrote is bad, wait till I'm done. Grrrrrrrr....

Everyone hated Confessions On The Dance Floor? Wha? That's just crazy talk! That cd is great! Hard Candy is JUST what the title says, it's her last cd for WB; and instead of putting out crap which most people do when they finish a contract with a company, she put out fun dance fluff! It's not deep, it's not innovative, it's just fun fluff! So dance, don't listen to the lyrics (cause, well, they're just some words to sing to while you dance! She didn't go deep here, people.) And enjoy!

Since Ray Of Light she's just rocked! Every cd, amazing! (With the one exception of her anniversary cd (how ironic) being American Life, now THAT was some craptacular stuff let me tell you. Which is why she had to save her "hip-hop" face, and put out Hard Candy; cause her first hip-hop attempt bombed. Oh no, wait, that would have been Erotica. Wait, I'm still right. ;-)
