Be It Resolved...(Updated)

CawfeeGuy's New Puppy Resolutions
  1. I will remember to only purchase clothes for dogs which are are functional. little sweaters keep him warm and little raincoats keep him dry. little cowboy or construction worker or leather daddy outfits are decorative only; he's a dog and not a member of the Village people.
  2. I will not let whether or not he poops, pees, eats or drinks affect my mood. when he wants to do any of the afformentioned, he will.
  3. I will not be taken in by the Big Doe-eyed Puppy schtick, and discipline (read: scold) him when it's warranted.
  4. I will not resent him for forcing me out of bed on cold, wet mornings, at 5am to take him out.
  5. I will remember that not all people are "dog people" and that no matter how cute and wonderful I think he is, some (incredibly insane and untrustworthy) people may not like him and i should not take it personally; i should respect their feelings and not force my puppy on them.
  6. i will actively avoid those people from #5
  7. I will listen to (but not necessarily take) unsolicited advice from other dog owners because just like when dealing with boyfriends, what works for them won't necessarily work for me.
  8. I will not feel guilty that neither my husband nor i cannot be stay at home puppy dads.

to be continued...

1. You will completely forget ths rule and find yourself buying outfits because, dammit, they just look soooooooo cute on him!
2.It will effect you, but like any good daddy, you will compose yourself and remember he is not human and can only react on instinct most of the time, n matter how well trained he is.
3.Yeah, right. Good luck with that. Sucker! You may get passed those doey eyes, but try surviving the bowed head, full body trembling fall out after you scold him...you'll want to carve out your heart with a spoon and beg his forgiveness...
4.You will be frustrated, but no, you won't resent him. You will be grateful he is letting you know as opposed to taking it upon himself to find an inside spot to go padiddle.
5.You will systematically purge these evil people from your life, as per your #6. You are not biased, your dog IS cute and wonderful (well, not quite as cute and wonderful as my dog, but, hey, to each is own...)
6.Bingo!
5.

Yeah, we had the no dressing the dog rule, and stick to it most of the time (except for the fleece during the snow - it keeps snowballs from forming on his belly). But, we couldn't resist the devil halloween costume when he was really little. And he looked damn cute.

Also, if you happen to have puppy sitters, don't be surprised if they dress your dog while you're out. I came home one day to find Thor dressed in a Santa suit courtesy of my brother, Jay.

It's a good thing I'm a dog person, because I would not want to be subject to #6. :-)

But a Halloween costume on a dog is functional. Their function is make me giggle. :-)

Ginger, the dog who will _never_ stay still for a photo, remained very still the other day when Jen dressed her in a selection of belly dancing hip scarves. Whether it was from fear of the that all around jingling sensation or from finally reaching a feeling of sartorial completeness I couldn't say.

oh and no advice from me to you on dog vitamins unless you ask first, see #7

Awesome list! The one I disagree with is that a dog should be a part of the Village People.

RE: Number 8 - Aw. Isn't it funny how they talk about separation anxiety on the part of the puppy, but don't mention how much separation anxiety we owners go through?
