Fuck You Isaiah Thomas
gripe, indeed.Your Face Doesn't Ring a Bell, but How About Dropping Your Pants...
take a quarter. on top of the quarter place a nickel. on top of the nickel, place a dime.the quarter is Staten island.
the nickel is Gay Staten Island
the dime is the percentage of Gay Staten Island that i "know" (read: blew in the backseat or met online and consequently blew on their couch while their wife/roommate/friend was at work/visiting their mother/getting laid somewhere else).
odds are good that i might know my friend's new fella.
now, i don't think this would be a problem (at least not for me), but one never knows. i think with Staten Island's gay community being so small, it's kind of inevitable that at some point one of your friends would either date or hook up with a past trick, right? it's happened to me before, where a guy i was seeing has introduced me to his friends and i know at least one of them (who happened to be in a long term relationship when we hooked up, unbeknownst to me and his significant other).
as for my friend, i'm not sure if he'd be ok or not with me possibly having slept with (read that as you will), his potential boyfriend. he's pretty easy going and knows how small Staten Island is. i think he'd be ok with it, and i'm hoping he wouldn't let a potentially good guy slip through his fingers because of it. like all friends, i want him to be happy and settled with a guy who'll treat him right.
i know stephen, though, and i'm pretty sure that it wouldn't sit well with him if my friend and his guy were to hit it off, become a couple, and were we all to hang out (read: double date). he's fine with the past staying in the past, but when the past is sitting on your couch drinking your cappucino, that's a whole different ball of wax. it's a valid form of irk, i must say, even if i don't particularly share it. there's a chance i'm wrong though; he never ceases to surprise me (which is what i love most about him).
anyway, my friend sent me a picture of said fella, and though very good looking, doesn't look "familiar". at 6'5" they would make a stunning couple and i'm wondering how he'll look in a tux, and the two of them dancing at our wedding...

- Paris Hilton. why couldn't she have been knifed or schived or something..?
- i'm tired and restless; i'd rather be home, in my chair, taking the sun. i'd relish a sunburn more than being here today. there's gotta be a better job out there...

We're Here...We're Queer...We'll (Apparently) Watch Anything!
i give alot of credit to Showtime, Queer as Folk and the L Word were/are very well written, even at their worst. you never watched the show, rolled your eyes and thought "this is so ridiculous", even when Ted was being fucked in a sling by crystal queens or Alice wouldn't give up the life-sized Dana Fairbanks cutout. the dialogue was always real and the plots were always realistic, which really makes one care about the characters. that's the way to build a fan base. it feels like networks are relying on the fact that a show is "gay" to build it's fan base, regardless of how crappy it is.
thanks to the good folks at Netflix, the hubby and i have been indulging in one of our favorite passtimes: watching TV shows on DVD andthis past weekend, 2 new series arrived in the mail: Logo's Noah's Ark (Season 2, Disc 1) and Next's Dante's Cove (Season 1, Disc 1). Let's talk turkey...
thanks to john, we watched Season 1 of Noah's Arc a couple of months ago. it started off really bad (bad acting, bad writing, boring story) following the lives of four black gay men in LA, but (to be perfectly honest) got alot better by the season's end. by
the end of the season, i almost cared what happened to the unbelievably irritating and terribly unattractive femme Noah, his incredibly hot and thuggish boyfriend and their small group of friends who seemed to be the love children of Queer as Folk and Soul Food. the addition of Wilson Cruz (a favorite of mine since his days of My So Called Life) to the cast made it worth watching, too. he's a terriffic actor who made the most of his character and helped you forget how silly the dialogue sounded. somehow, the writing seemed to get better. It was still brain candy, but it was endearing and better written brain candy. Sadly, Season 2 started off just like Season 1 and by the end of the disc, i stopped caring again. we sent the disc back and are now wating for disc 2 to come. i hope it gets better...
i'd seen ads for Dante's Cove in Chelsea, on phone booths and in the subway, but i wasn't too sure what it was about. the ads looked like all the other ads for gay movies or tv shows or cologne: pretty men in beautiful (yet forboding) locales. unbeknownst to me, the Here! Network released it on DVD, Netflix started carrying it, and Stephen added disc 1 of season 1 to our queue (that's alot of stuff to happen without one knowing it). i'd heard very little about the series, but when Stephen briefly described the plot, i knew what to expect: more bad gay TV. i wasn't quite prepared for the hot mess that is Dante's Cove, though. think Buffy crossed with Passions crossed with (what else) Queer As Folk. it's all about dark magic, hottish men, the occult and some lesbians. everyone looks about 10 years older than they're pretending to be; all the men where the latest from International Male and the girls seem to go around bare-chested alot. as for the writing, they've overcome the hurdles of bad dialogue and poor plot development which hold back shows like Noah's Arc, by keeping both to a bare minimum. there's about 5 minutes of plot/dialogue/discourse sandwiched between 15 minute porno-style sex scenes (most of which take place on the beach). i'm not sure where "the Cove" is, but it must be hot as Satan's balls, 'cuz when they're not sexing, they're sweating. hell, even when they are sexing, they're sweating. not "getting you off is a fun aerobic workout" kinda sweat, mind you; we're
talking full on dripping like the town whore at the Methodist Family Picnic kinda sweat, Paris Hilton at the SAT's kinda sweat, y'know? everyone is very shiny...all the time. having watched only the 90 minute pilot, i can't imagine what the rest of the series is like.i'll admit, i don't subscribe to either Logo or Next, and if either of these shows are any indication of their original programing, i'm kind glad though. i guess i've fallen into the trap the networks have set for me however, 'cuz i'm going to continue watching both shows on DVD and turn a blind eye to the gag-factor. why? because they're gay. i feel like a puppy, picking at whatever crumbs i'm thrown. maybe that's what gay people are, starved for entertainment and grabbing at whatever scraps are tossed out. we don't worry about quality, we're just happy we're getting anything at all 'cuz it shows that someone cares about us...
i just wish we could up our standards, y'know?

Andy Bell: Sexy Ugly
It Should've Been Called Throwing Up

it was like watching bisexual porn...without the porn. the writing was awful. the acting was terrible. even the music was bad. the actors were cute, in that "i'm-a-perpetually-sixteen-twinkie" kinda way.
ironically, the title has nothing to do with the movie; it's not a clever pun. it's not a double entendre. save your money. save your time.

nothing says "rainy wednesday in East Armpit, New Jersey" like the dulcet, and oft mournful sounds of Rufus Wainwright.

So Fabulous It Warrants Its Own Post
Because Who Doesn't Like to See Pictures of a Beautiful Baby?
True Colors Pt. 2: the Review
this gives me ample opportunity to tell you all about the concert on Friday night...
i'm gonna skip over the nightmare of getting down to AC (and the 1 hour detour i took us on) and get right to the acts (in order of appearance):
1. Margaret Cho: looked amazing. she must've lost about 40 lbs and just radiated gorgeousness. she was funny and lewd and incendiary. she was everything i was hoping she'd be. i can't think of a better host.
2. the Gossip: typical "opening band". they weren't great, but they were really really good. they were hard rock but still had some great songs and fantastic energy. the lead singer was a girl with a fantastic voice; loud and strong. i'd definitely see them again or, at the very least, pick up their CD if i saw it on sale.
3. the Dresden Dolls: the biggest surprise of the evening. i had never heard them (but had heard of them). just a pianist and a drummer. their sound? think early Tori; back when she used to go nuts on the piano and scream out meaningful and dark lyrics. every song was amazing. they were so fucking hot and had such an awesome sound, that i ran out on saturday and bought their 1st CD.
4: Debbie Harry: she played a mostly new set; stuff from her upcoming album. i think she sounded good, it was very hard to tell, because her band was so loud. she was a little disappointing. stephen thinks it was a mixing issue, i'm thinking she did it on purpose. either way she looked great; about 20 years younger than she is. it can't be from "clean living". maybe she sold her soul to the rock gods. who knows.
5. Erasure: words fail me. i was so astounded and in awe of Andy Bell that i almost passed out. they had me screaming like a ten year old girl. they played all of their greatest songs: Oh L'Amour, Always, I Love to Hate You, Chains of Love, etc plus a couple of tunes off the new CD (which i bought on Saturday, too). Andy sounds better in person than on any CD and his stage presence is intoxicating. John told me that they're playing in Brooklyn, in July; we are so there.
6. Cyndi Lauper: beyond fabulous. beyond great. beyond anything i could've expected, despite having seen her twice when she opened for Cher during the Farewell Tour that Never Ended when i was moved to tears by her real-ness and stage presence. those small shows didn't prepare me for the energy and chutzpah she possesses as a headliner. she performed most of her hits, but with entirely new and fresh arrangements. her voice hasn't changed in 20 years: it's as clear and brilliant as a golden gong and i just love her.over all, the concert was the best i've seen since Cher. all the performers really turned it out and put on the best possible show. i almost didn't notice that it was a 5 hour show, or that i was standing the entire time. by far and above it was the best $75 i've ever spent on a concert ticket.
the bonus was definitely being there with Stephen and MS, who got the most amazing pictures of everyone including Cyndi Lauper (who eventually stood still long enough to get the most gorgeous candid shots). i'm glad we went to the AC show instead of the NYC show; it was a great road trip and the Borgata theater was small and intimate. the crowd was really great and receptive and i've gotta say, really made me feel that sense of the Gay Community. it really was a big Gay Love-fest, and i was moved to tears (more than once) by the continual wave of Pride emenated by the performers. Margaret and Cyndi are two of our greatest and most vocal allies and it's inspiring to them speak to us, about us and for us.
if they have this tour again, next year, i'll be there.

Potty Time 3: Stall Tactics
nobody should have this much to say about the men's room at work, but strangely enough, i do.Three Day Weekend
so we've got another 3 day weekend planned...tomorrow is the True Colors concert. MS is driving
Saturday is gonna be nice and chill. i'm sure we're gonna get home very late from the concert (not enought dough to stay over in AC). so we're gonna probably sleep in, Stephen will make a Weight Watchers friendly brunch for the 3 of us (fat free Huevos Rancheros?) and we can just hang out. i should go to the mall and find my dad a gift for sunday, though...
Sunday is Father's Day so we'll be with our respective dad's; stephen in Long Island and me elsewhere on Staten Island. seperating on holidays is a drag, but what can you do? these days are about them not us. actually...the only thing i mind is not having the car so i can make my quick escape, post dessert...
i've nothing else to report.
has this blog gotten dull, or is it just me?

Reason #1 Why I Have Bad Credit
thanks to MS, i am now completely addicted to Zazzle and have beem creating t-shirts, mugs and things for the last 3 days. here's the best of the bunch (click to see them larger)...

i'm pretty sure they violate all kinds of copyright laws, and i could probably get in alot of trouble just by posting them here, but they're cute, right? this is the most creative thing i've done since...well...ever. if i could stuff cash into my computer tower (like a Coke machine), i'd have bought them all already.
see, no impulse control.
